Hear two winners in last year's Australian Timber Design Awards discuss their projects at a Tuesday @ Tusculam event on March 20.

Timothy Moon of Timothy Moon Architects will present on his Escarpment House, the winner of the 2011 Residential Class One Award. Escarpment House comprises a series of robust linked timber and stone pavilions on the edge of an escarpment above the Hawkesbury River. Clinton Murray, Practice Leader of Architecture and Interiors with SKM-S2F, will discuss AIIM Processing and Devices Building, the winner of the 2011 People's Choice award. This delicate building houses the University of Wollongong Microscopy Unit. It uses timber structurally and decoratively to prevent interference with the microscopes within.

The talk starts at 6:30 PM on Tuesday, March 20, at AIA NSW Tuscalam House. It will be introduced by Stephen Mitchell of WoodSolutions.

2011 Overall Winner - Circa Morris-Nunn Walker - Saffire
2011 Overall Winner - Circa Morris-Nunn Walker - Saffire
The winners of the 2011 Australian Timber Design Awards have been announced! The main winner is Circa Morris-Nunn Walker for Saffire a lavish 20 suite resort overlooking Great Oyster Bay, Tasmania.

The judging panel was wowed by the manner in which the Saffire resort responds to its bushland surroundings. The organic curves of the resort roofs rise gradually above the bush like small hills, reminiscent of the gentle peaks of the nearby Hazard Ranges. These complex curves could not have been achieved without the design flexibility of pre-fabricated structural timber – a fact that ultimately gave Saffire the edge over other timber-rich finalists.

Winners of all categories were announced on October 18 at Chapter House, Melbourne. Major figures from the design community were on hand to enjoy what has become the premier event in the timber design calendar.

See the full list of winners.

Thank you to our judges, our sponsors and, most of all, the many members of the Australian timber design and architecture community who entered projects. The success of the 2011 Australian Timber Design Awards -- Australasia's foremost timber design and architectural awards – is due to you.
