Structure
Pine stud and structural framing and Hyspan structural members were used to the new sections of roofs and walls.
Structural plywood sheeting for structural bracing and roof linings to take slate and copper roof claddings.
The ply linings were the best method to create a durable, flat and an even plane upon which to fix the copper roof sheeting, and in conjunction with the applied waterproof membrane provided a weathertight skin to the house and a trafficable surface.
External Cladding
Western Red Cedar 130mm Vee Joint external cladding boards were selected to clad the additions and were selected for their durability, availability and ease to work with.
External Decking
A timber that could be used internally and externally was chosen to compliment the recycled Blackbutt Timber used to the interior in order to create a flowing composition and seemless transition between inside and out. 86mmx19mm Tallowwood boards were laid on hardwood joists for the tallowwood deck to bear onto. The Tallowwood decking was selected for its excellent properties that it has as an external timber.
Internal Flooring
New recycled Blackbutt 190mm wide boards were used for the new flooring throughout the house and stairs leading up from the lower ground floor to the ground floor.
Wood veneers
American Walnut veneer was selected for all joinery throughout the house with exception to the kitchen that is fluted solid American walnut boards.
To limit the palette of materials in the design a timber veneer was selected to compliment and enhance the recycled Blackbutt flooring. The timber
Miscellaneous.
MDF, HMR and plywood carcass framing to all joinery, MDF was employed for the sliding screens which were laser cut with an ornate pattern to mimic an original plaster ceiling pattern.
